Applicants should be prepared to meet the following requirements when applying for a job vacancy
at The Barry Robinson Center.
 When called in for an interview, a current DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) Driving History Transcript of less than 30 days old MUST be obtained and submitted AT THE TIME OF INTERVIEW for any position in Residential, Community Living and HomeBase Programs. If you recently surrendered or still possess an out-of-state drivers license, please obtain the out-of-state driving record from the applicable state authority. In addition, all other documentation such as educational verification (official transcript or diploma AND unofficial transcript) and any original license/ certification required for a position must be presented at the time of interview.
 Complete the Center's Application for Employment form. Attach a recent resume with cover letter if available.
 Complete a Child Protective Services (CPS) Request for Search of the Central Registry and Release of Information form.
 Review the job description for the position for which you are applying.
 Review and sign the Job Description Review Acknowledgement form.
 All applicants for the following classifications ~ new employee, volunteer, contractual provider, and intern must submit to an extensive criminal background investigation upon interview. Newly hired employees will be expected to share in the cost of background investigation processing fees. The amount of $37.00 will be payroll deducted from the employees first paycheck.
 Background checks include:
- Child Protective Services investigation
- Department of Motor Vehicles (at/or points better than -3 acceptable)
- Criminal history investigation which includes fingerprint checks through:
- State Police
- Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI)
- Be prepared to complete criminal background investigation documents and be fingerprinted following completion of your interview or return the next day.
- If offered a job, new employees must submit proof of eligibility to work in the United States as required by the US Department of Justice INS. ID's required on 1st day of employment.
The Barry Robinson Center processes payroll using the banking method of direct-deposit. New employees should be prepared on first day of orientation with bank account number, cancelled check or deposit slip.

Community Living Programs
Independent Living Program Worker - Immediate need! Midnight and weekend shift substitute workers needed to assist caseworkers and program director in providing supportive services to youth in a community (apartment) residence setting to help clients become self-reliant in daily living. Clients include males and females ages 16-21 and pregnant females. One (1) year experience working with children and families a plus. Bachelor's degree required, preferably in social work or related field. Midnight shift hours are 11pm-8am with limited or no notice. DMV driving transcript required. (Sub/Flex)
HomeBase Services
HomeBase Counselor - Performs clinically appropriate intervention that includes assessment, individual and family counseling and crisis intervention for youth and families in their homes. Participates in clinical case management and treatment team activities. Must be a QMHP (Qualified Mental Health Professional) and have knowledge of human growth and development, individual and family treatment approaches, assessment and treatment planning, clinical intervention and de-escalation techniques. Must also be familiar with community-based resources within the local community and possess a valid driver's license and auto insurance. Must have a Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field and one (1) year of clinical experience working directly with individuals with mental illness or mental retardation. (Full-time)(PRN/Flex)
Nursing
RN - RN position available in the Nursing Department. Candidate will provide selected nursing care for emotionally disturbed children and adolescents within the framework of the nursing process, CORE and JCAHO guidelines, the Human Rights Plan and established policies and procedures of the Center per assigned shift. Residential
Residential Counselor - Positions available in our Residential programs (Boys/Girls/Substance Abuse) to work with adolescents and children with emotional problems and learning difficulties. Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field required. Six months experience working with emotionally disturbed children preferred. Residential Team Leader - Position requires one (1) shift team leader supervisory duties every other week in addition to direct-care in our Residential Boys Program. Requires supervision of staff, treatment planning, staffing reports, assistnace in MD medical rounds, and assistance in communication process with multi-disciplinary team members and outside agencies. Must possess strong leadership, problem solving, communication and team-building skills. Must be able to function independently with minimum supervision. Requires Bachelor's degree in Human Service field with two (2) years experience working with emotionally disturbed adolescents in a residential treatment setting, and one (1) year supervisory experience. Supervisory experience can be waived if experience in adolescent/residential treatment is significant. Day/evening rotation every other weekend. Current DMV transcript required. (Full-time)
Certified Substance Abuse Counselor - Needed to provide assessment, case management, individual, group and family therapies/education to patients and/or families of chemically dependent persons. Additional responsibilities include assisting in program development, process improvement and community education. Requirements include demostrated clinical experience in addictions counseling with youth and families, ability to function as integral member of multidisciplinary treatment team, knowledge of and experience in group dynamics. Knowledge of therapeutic relationships, child growth and development, behavior management, de-escalation techniques, disease process related to substance abuse, withdrawal symptoms co-existing behavioral health disorders, crisis intervention, CPR, social health and welfare programs and laws governing eligibility for these programs, and demonstrated leadership abilities. If in revocery, must be in recovery for at least two (2) years prior to employment, but five (5) years is preferred. Master's degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or rehabilitation and certification as a Substance abuse Counselor or certification as an Addiction Counselor preferred. Bachelor's degree and certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor or certification as an Addistions Counselor accepted. Must have two (2) years of relevant experience. (Full-time)
Utilization Management |

Utilization Case Manager - Part-time position available for a utilization case manager to provide a supportive link between the clinical treatment team, the Center and external case management companies. Position reviews and collates information necessary to support clinical service delivery in the residential and community-based programs. Must be organized and efficient in the collection and evaluation of data necessary to meet criteria for third party reimbursement. Excellent reading, writing and document production skills required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications a must. Prior knowledge of and experience with Virginia Medicaid criteria for reimbursement helpful. Candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in a human service field, have at lease three (3) years of clinical experience in a mental health setting, be able to work independently and set priorities.
