Recruiting Extraordinary Employees

September 9, 2019

With great enthusiasm for the field of human resources, Mary Close-Arzon, SHRM-CP, looks forward to helping recruit extraordinary employees to The Barry Robinson Center (BRC).

Close-Arzon joined BRC in July 2019 as the organization’s first Workforce Development Manager. Holding professional certification through the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM), she brings solid experience and a strong desire to match qualified people with the right jobs.

“I had my light bulb moment of my passion to pursue HR while working for a local in-home healthcare company,” said Close-Arzon. “Later, I worked in veterinary healthcare as an HR Generalist with a heavy focus in recruiting and onboarding. That’s where I decided to continue to work in the healthcare field. I’m very grateful to be back in the Virginia Beach area and now a part of the BRC family.”

BRC created the new workforce development manager position earlier this year. As the first person to fill the role, Close-Arzon’s current focus is revamping BRC’s recruitment strategy. She also works closely with department managers to fill open positions.

“The other aspect of my role is building beneficial relationships in the community to increase BRC’s presence among students, alumni, healthcare professionals and others,” she explained. “The more people that know about us, the more likely we’ll attract top talent now and, in the future, to help drive our mission.”

BRC’s nonprofit mission resonates deeply with Close-Arzon, who recently had her first child. She also worked as a nanny earlier in her career.

“I love the fact that BRC’s mission is focused on helping children. I’ve always held a special place in my heart for youth and their well-being,” she said.

As she settles into her new role, Close-Arzon welcomes the opportunities it presents.

“I’m looking forward to getting to know all of my new team members throughout the campus. There are so many new faces I see and meet almost daily! I’m also interested in learning about different opportunities to engage with the children through various activities they participate in,” she said.

“And, I’m really enjoying reaching out to the community and connecting with schools, organizations and other associations about BRC’s need for extraordinary employees.”
