Following a successful virtual training for educators this spring, The Barry Robinson Center (BRC) is partnering again with the Military Child Education Center (MCEC).
MCEC will deliver Social and Emotional Learning and the Military-Connected Child. This will be a 6-hour training program on November 4 and 18, from 12:30-3:30 p.m. ET each day. The program is free. CEs are available for purchase by professionals who complete all six hours.

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which people understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
“This training helps educators who work with students from military families. The content addresses student behavior and how it’s interrelated with academic competencies, decision-making, and relationship management,” said Kaci McCarley, MCEC’s program manager for professional development. “Once we can help students learn to self-manage, they do better with assignments and in their relationships with peers and others.”

The six, one-hour sessions incorporate multiple opportunities for group interaction and practical application components. Each one-hour session is stand-alone, so participants can choose to attend one or more sessions.
When BRC and MCEC offered this training in spring, attendees rated it highly for success on meeting learning objectives. They also shared many positive comments. MCEC uses the Net Promoter Score (NPS) system, and the sessions earned an 81 NPS. According to global NPS standards, anything higher than 70 is considered world-class.
“We’re looking very forward to the virtual delivery of this training again. And we’re confident it will be a great training experience for all,” said BRC Vice President, Dr. Chuck Brooks, a member of the MCEC national advisory committee.
