“I am a former BRC resident from many years ago. I came to BRC for help with my depression, and you reminded me how to find worth in myself once again. Soon after I was discharged, my father received orders to move us to the Washington D.C. area for a new assignment. I started high school there and graduated last year. BRC has changed not just my son's life but my family's life. My son was there for one year. But the help does not stop when they leave. They helped my entire family. They worked with us to give us a plan for when he returned up. A plan that works. They gave my son not only the help he needed in a group setting but so much one on one help. They made him feel special. They helped us find aftercare. BRC made sure that he stayed caught up on school. My son has now been home for one year. I never imagined that life could be this enjoyable. My child had the best therapist, the best teachers, the best dorm staff. They work as a team to help you and your child. They make sure you are connected with your child and what they are doing.. I could write for hours on how much they have helped our family and specifically my son. Mrs. Tawanda and Mr. Jacob are still my most favorite people but I can only say positive about everyone.

My son spent nearly seven months at BRC and within just a few days of his return home, it has already made a world of difference for him and has helped him to learn how to cope with the issues that had been troubling him. My son's Clinical Therapist did a great job of working with him throughout his stay and was also extremely helpful to my wife and I with any questions or concerns that we had. She also made sure to actively incorporate us into our son's therapy which which really made us feel like we were part of the the process of helping our son, even though we were on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean while it was going on. I strongly endorse the Barry Robinson Center as well as our son's Clinical Therapist to any family who has children who need a high level of support for major behavioral health issues.

BRC was a great experience for me personally. I went through treatment here about a year and a half ago and it saved my life. BRC helped me get caught back up in school which was a huge stress for me at the time. I had some issues with a couple dorm staff but I was able to bring it to attention and communicate it as long as it was respectful. The whole place is built on respect and accountability. These values helped me turn my life around. Along with this the team of therapists for the boys side are amazing. Each one cares deeply about their residents and tries their best to make us comfortable in a foreign place. My therapist along with the boys director helped me tremendously to get back on my feet and continue my life.

Was it perfect? No. But our child was ready and willing to do the work. The staff there were ready and able to help. This was a step down place between more intensive care and home for us. If your child is willing, I think BRC will help. It did for us. The family support was robust and we are so thankful for that since we lived far from BRC. We waited over 6+ months to write this review, wondering if the changes would last. We did the work at home too- that is critical that the entire family makes changes, and sticks to them, and that you have supports at home in place for discharge. One stand out thing, was that our child had some new medical issues come up, and the staff worked with us to find a specialist and take her to the necessary appts which sometimes took hours of their day.

I have tried to write my review a few times and kept feeling as I wasn’t getting my point across in the manner I want to, so I’ve decided I’m just going to speak (type) from my heart. Firstly, The Barry Robinson Center was pivotal in saving my daughter’s life. After touring the campus I felt confident this would be the place to make the best impact on my daughter, I could not have imagined what was to come during her time there. Not only did they save my daughter’s life (her own words!) but they saved our family! The staff were all so understanding and the communication is like none I’ve experienced before. My daughter discharged the program at the beginning of this month after being there for just about six months. Not only did my daughter learn the tools she needs to cope and live a “typical” and healthy life, but I as a mother learned so much about myself and ways I could make changes at home that would have a real impact on all my children. My daughter's father and I are divorced and have never truly been good at co-parenting and I never thought a day would come where we could have any conversations that were not laced with toxicity but through family therapy (a crucial element of treatment) we as her parents healed some of our own trauma and have gotten to a place of healthy coparenting and can even have conversations out of the blue just to check in. There were times during the six months I wanted to just pull her out and bring her home, because it’s hard, really hard, but I kept trusting my gut and trusting the process. Today my daughter has yet to cease amazing me! Everyday she proves that the process worked and shockingly enough she hasn’t even shown much typical teenage attitude! She stops and thinks before saying or doing things, she is honest with me and I am finally trusting her again! I am so thankful that I did trust the process and the staff! The doctors and staff were the first to actually listen and truly HEAR my concerns as a mother, they never once turned away when so many others had. If you are reading this review I am assuming it’s because you are a parent or loved one in a very similar situation my family was almost seven months ago, you feel like you’re lost and you just want someone to hear you and truly help….please do not hesitate, call the team at The Barry Robinson Center right now! I’m telling you it is just the beginning on a road to recovery and a life not living in survival anymore, you won’t regret it! It’s time to trust your gut make the call and start living like actually living life again and the staff here know how to help you get to that point in life!! Our son was here several years ago. It was so helpful with family counseling and he didn’t fall behind in school. He was in for a few months. After looking at all the other facilities, this one was like a college campus. It made a huge positive difference in his life and ours.

Of course, there can be improvements, but what struck me was the willingness to learn how they can improve. I was part of a little experiment they did with adding some of the residents to the leadership meetings. While I was there, I had an AMAZING therapist who really pushed me and didn't fall for my bull crap. I loved them, they were really fun. I recommend BRC to anyone who needs help. You have to accept the help for it to be given to you. I know you got this, as I was there too. Your problems aren't going to go away completely, but you can watch over yourself and will take control of your life again. I was lost in self-harm, and now, four months later, just passed a year since I got hospitalized before BRC; I can manage the few thoughts that come. I'm improving communication with my family. You got this!
